Specialist Teacher – SEND and SEMH Support

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop trust-based relationships with children and young people who have experienced educational challenges
  • Provide bespoke, trauma-informed tutoring for:
    • SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs
    • SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), including:
      • MLD (Moderate Learning Difficulties)
      • SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties)
      • PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties)
      • Autism, ADHD, complex needs (as aligned with EHCP)
  • Deliver KS1 to KS5 sessions (with relevant specialisms) aligned with individual EHCPs and risk assessments
  • Plan, excavate, and deliver flexible, creative, and engaging lessons and mentoring
  • Monitor progress and provide regular reporting and feedback to families and schools
  • Operate with commitment to safeguarding children as a safeguarding-conscious educator

Requirements

Must meet the following criteria:

  • Experience & Specialism:

    • 2+ years of post-NQT teaching experience, ideally with:
      • SEND/SEMH/Mental Health pedagogy
      • Holistic, trauma-informed approaches
    • Experience working with young people with SEND, SEMH, MLD, SLD, PMLD, and specialised behavioural needs
  • Qualifications:

    • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS
    • These may be equivaned for qualification of skill (see Relevant Roles section)

Relevant Job Role Experience

Ideally, you’ll have expertise in fields such as:

Teaching Background (Preferred):

  • SENDCo (Special Education Needs Coordinator)
  • Removed Alternate Provision Teacher or Inclusion Specialist (Non-mainstream)
  • SCP/GLH/LA provisions working with the below conditions: add focus-grounded expertise to applications
  • SLD/MLD specialists
  • Specialist in Autism/ADHD (tc.) support

Support Roles (Also Considered):

  • Learning Support Assistant (LSA) / Teaching Assistant (TA)
  • Priorities should reflect professional background within:
    • Educational Therapy or Psychology
    • Speech & Language Therapy (SALT) support
    • Cognitive remediation or therapeutic teaching for trauma/SEND
