Speciality Doctor in Learning Disability
Specialty Doctor Role – Autism Ward (Onyx) & Child & Adolescent Inpatient Ward (Jade)
Located at Brooklands Hospital, Marston Green, Birmingham
About the Role
We are seeking a specialty doctor to join our valuable automotive services across the Autism Ward (Onyx, a 7-bed low secure ward) and the Child and Adolescent Intellectual Disability unit (Jade, a 6-bed unit).
These services play a key role in delivering the Transforming Care Programme, supporting individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities.
Location & Trust Overview
The Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust provides services across the spectrum of mental health and disability care, spanning from children to older adults. Key areas include:
- Age Independent Mental Health Directorate
- Autism and Intellectual Disability Services
- Community Health Directorate:
- Paediatrics
- Sexual Health
- Palliative Care
Our inpatient services are delivered at:
- Caludon Centre, Coventry
- St Michaels Hospital, Warwick (mental health)
- Brooklands Hospital, Marston Green, Birmingham (learning disability)
Key Responsibilities
As the post holder, your role will include:
- Providing overall psychiatric and physical healthcare across the 7-bed Autism low secure ward and 6-bed Child and Adolescent Intellectual Disability unit, under consultant supervision.
- Assessing, diagnosing, and managing patients with psychiatric conditions who have, or are suspected of having, autism; offering advice for patients with learning disabilities.
- Participation in essential meetings, including:
- Ward rounds & multidisciplinary reviews
- Ward Governance meetings
- Monthly audit/safety and quality forum meetings
- Service development, quality improvement, and outcomes focus meetings
- Attending team planning sessions (line management, job planning with medical leads, and service manager oversight).
- Ensure compliance with any other Trust meetings or attendance requests.

Candidate Requirements
- Specialty doctor qualification with experience in autism/learning disability services preferred.
- Ability to delivery compassionate yet clinically sound psychiatric and physical care to vulnerable patients.
- Capable of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, offering expertise in day-to-day operations and long-term developmental objectives.
- Eager to adapt to newly commissioned services (such as Onyx Ward) while contributing to continuous improvement.
