Substantive Specialty Dentist – Oral Medicine (NHSGGC, Glasgow Dental Hospital)

About the Role NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the UK’s largest healthcare systems, employing over 40,000 staff across clinical and non-clinical roles. Serving a population of 1.15 million+ and providing acute, primary, community, and mental health services, we seek a Substantive Specialty Dentist to join our Oral Medicine Department at Glasgow Dental Hospital.

Shift & Commitment

  • Monday to Friday (no out-of-hours/on-call duty, except for a second cover Consultant Rota during working hours)
  • Part-time hours supported where feasible (flexible working considered)

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will deliver a specialist service, focusing on:

  • Assessment and management of outpatients with complex oral mucosal disease
  • Diagnosis and shared care for systemic disease-related oral conditions
  • Treatment planning and shared pathways with primary care clinicians
  • Supporting service re-design initiatives in tandem with existing teams

Key Duties Include:

  • Providing on-call support alongside colleagues (rotational basis during defined hours)
  • Offering expert guidance to general dental and medical practitioners
  • Collaborating on diagnostics, treatment protocols, and clinical governance

Essential Requirements

  • Full GDC Registration
  • Minimum 4 years of full-time postgraduate training or equivalent experience/competencies
  • Evidence of expertise in oral medicine and systemic oral manifestations

Desirable:

  • Experience in service development/ Improvement
