Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics
The Anaesthetics Department at Dorset County NHS Foundation Trust has a vacancy for a Specialty Doctor.
About the Role
The successful applicant will join an established, successful, enthusiastic and ACSA accredited team in delivering quality anaesthetic, perioperative and critical care services to the local West Dorset population and adjoining areas. This includes anaesthetic support for the hospital’s surgical teams including theatre sessions for Orthopaedics, Vascular Surgery, Ophthalmology, Maxillo-facial, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Urology, Colorectal, and General Surgery. Anaesthetic support is also provided in the radiology suite and endoscopy unit. The post will also include working on the Intensive Care Unit at DCH.
Responsibilities
- Provide anaesthetic support for surgical teams in theatre sessions and other areas.
- Provide anaesthetic support in the radiology suite and endoscopy unit.
- Work on the Intensive Care Unit at DCH.
Timetable
- Flexible timetable with up to 20 hours per week.
- Combination of elective surgical lists (5 hours each), obstetrics cover and on-call commitment.
- Rota on an 8-week rolling basis with approximately 36 lists of variable surgical specialties over an 8-week period in addition to on-call commitment.
- Specialist interests and regular commitments may be accommodated.
- Opportunity of an attached training list each week.

CPD
- Timetable includes a minimum of one SPA for CPD.
- CPD is supported by the Trust and is in accordance with current College requirements.
Career Support

- Successful candidate will be supported by a mentor from within the consultant body.
- Encouragement and support for SAS staff to look towards Portfolio Pathway/CESR if they wish to take this route.
About the Trust
The Trust is located close to the centre of the county town of Dorchester and is a modern hospital. It provides the full range of general, acute hospital services, including an emergency department. The Trust is a recognised trauma unit affiliated with the Southampton Trauma Centre.
