About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) as a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine. Positions are available at:
- Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Telford
- Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH), Shrewsbury
These roles offer a chance to work within a friendly, supportive, and educational environment, providing ideal development for doctors aiming to progress toward higher specialist training and Specialist/Consultant roles.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality emergency services, working alongside motivated teams to shape the future of the department and organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Provide emergency medical services, including:
- Reception, resuscitation, and initial diagnostic assessment of patients
- Treatment determination and appropriate referrals or dispositions (e.g., discharge back to the community, General Practitioner (GP) follow-up, outpatients, or hospital admission)
- Work in the Emergency Department (ED), including roles in a Trauma Unit (at one of the hospital sites)
- Actively contribute to workforce and service development aligned with the Trust’s vision

Clinical & Supervisory Roles
- Conduct triage, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in high-pressure scenarios
- Direct patient care, including seeing new cases and supervising junior doctors
- Manage follow-up clinics
- Ensure seamless liason with GPs, local emergency services, and social support systems
Teaching & Quality Improvement
- Supervise, teach, and mentor junior doctors, medical students, and nursing staff within the department
- Contribute to postgraduate education (PG) and continuing professional development (CPD)
- Support medical students attached to the Emergency Department
Incident & Policy Management
- Understand and participate in major incident planning, testing, and exercises
- Contribute to updating emergency response protocols
Service Development
- Develop special interests in alignment with departmental priorities, in collaboration with colleagues
- Deliver clinical and quality targets agreed at national and local levels, working with team leaders and commissioners
