Specialty Doctor – Urgent Treatment Centre at West Cornwall Hospital

About the Role

We are seeking motivated individuals to join and expand our enthusiastic and friendly team at the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at West Cornwall Hospital.

Our team thrives on multi-professional collaboration, with a commitment to delivering the highest standards in emergency care.

This full-time position will see successful applicants join our growing team of specialty doctors at the WCH Urgent Treatment Centre, providing varied and engaging clinical work across a wide range of presentations, including:

  • Medical
  • Surgical
  • Paediatrics
  • Trauma

The unit operates daily from 0800 to 2200, with a team including doctors, Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENPs), and nursing staff.

Additionally, ongoing recruitment is underway for a weekday consultant presence, expected to commence in Autumn.

Contract Details

  • 10-session Specialty Doctor contract
  • 1 session dedicated to supporting professional activities (including study leave)

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain highest clinical standards in assessing and managing patients within the Emergency Department.
  • Share day-to-day ward management responsibilities.
  • Supervise, teach, and train:
    • Junior medical staff
    • Advanced practitioners
    • Medical students
  • Actively participate in continuous professional development for regulatory revalidation.
  • Involvement in:
    • Departmental and trust clinical governance
    • Quality improvement initiatives
    • Audit activities
  • Attend departmental meetings as required.
  • Contribute to, or lead:
    • Teaching sessions (including simulation)
    • Trauma Team duties (under 24/7 consultant supervision)
  • Fulfill weekly rota obligations, including out-of-hours clinical shifts.
