Position Details
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a specialty doctor in Emergency Medicine, based at University Hospital Crosshouse. The post is offered on a permanent basis.
- Hours: 40 per week (subject to change from 1 April 2026 to 36 hours pro rata, per NHS Scotland’s Agenda for Change policy).
- UK Driving Licence: Mandatory.
The Role Overview
We are seeking experienced and motivated Emergency Medicine doctors to deliver first-line patient care under consultant supervision. Key requirements include:
- Clinical involvement in the Emergency Department (ED), including outpatient clinics.
- Support for Portfolio pathway completion and Quality Improvement (QI) leadership.

A location where nature meets urban accessibility—Ayrshire & Arran’s stunning beaches, golf courses, and scenic landscapes lie close to Glasgow (35 mins) and University Hospital Ayr (50 mins).
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:

Patient care:
- Assessment, management, and safe discharge of patients attending the ED.
- Reviewing radiology/lab reports for accurate deformulation and follow-up.

Teaching & training:
- Supervising Foundation Year Doctors (including practical procedures/routines).
- Overnight fleet lead alongside a consultant-on-call.

Clinic & education:
- Leading outpatient review clinics.
- Teaching trainee doctors (requires completion—or eligibility to complete—Advanced Life Support (ALS), Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)).

Quality improvement (QI):
- Driving departmental QI projects.
Contract & flexibility:
- Full-time: 10 procured application sessions (PAs), plus optional EPAs post-agreement.
- 8 core clinical sessions (DCC) + 2 SPA sessions, supporting Career &.contrib ACTivation (CESR) portfolio progression.
**Rotation:
- Self-rostered shifts (including nights/weekends).
- Holidays follow the Scotland Specialist Doctor contract framework.
Flexibility accommodated for personal commitments/side projects, including NGO work on discussion.

Experience & Qualifications
- Essential eligibility:
- Full GMC registration (licence to practise).
- Preferred certificates:
- Trainers must be trained/eligible for ALS, ATLS, and APLS.
