Job Overview The adult mental health services in Conwy work closely with Conwy social services, third-sector agencies, and partner organisations to provide a comprehensive care service for individuals with mental health needs. Care is delivered in accordance with the **Mental Health Measure (Wales) 2010, with a focus on patient-centred recovery-based care across primary and secondary care teams.
The Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) is supported by occupational therapists and psychologists, ensuring resilience and wellbeing for individuals with common mental health problems. The post holder will frequently collaborate with:
- Secondary care mental health services
- GP clusters
- The third sector
- Local authorities and partner agencies
Collaboration aligns with a whole community asset model and ensures trauma-informed social prescribing.
Main Responsibilities
Core Duties
- Work in Wales’ three-tiered Consultant Psychiatrist system (West, Mid, East Conwy).
- Serve as the full-time Specialty Doctor for the CMHT, handling:
- Urgent mental health assessments
- Clozapine, Depot, and Lithium clinics
- Outpatient consultation clinics
- ADHD assessments
- Manage a defined caseload, subject to job planning.

Involvement includes weekly secondary care meetings for referrals, appointment allocation, and case coordination between:
- Care Professional Nurses (CPNs)
- Social workers
- Occupational Therapists (Patients fall under Part II of the Mental Health Measure.)
Organisational Context
The Conwy Health Board employs around 18,000 staff under a £1.1bn budget. It manages:
- Three district general hospitals:
- Ysbyty Gwynedd (Bangor)
- Ysbyty Glan Clwyd (Rhyl)
- Wrexham Maelor Hospital
- Movements across 22+ acute & community hospitals and 90+ health centres and clinics.
Mental health services are currently undergoing programmatic change under the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Division.

Person Specification
Professional Requirements
Essential:
- Full General Medical Council registration.
- Minimum of four years (full-time equivalent) in UK-based postgraduate training (EEA equivalent accepted).
- At least two years in the relevant specialty, defined as:
- Successful Foundation Programme completion, followed by:
- ST1 & ST2 training, OR
- CT1 & CT2 training, OR
- Full-time Foundation Trust Specialist Registrar (FTSTA) equivalence.
- Successful Foundation Programme completion, followed by:
Desirable:
- Postgraduate mental health qualifications:
- MRCPsych certification
- Section 12(2) Approved status
Experiential Requirements
Essential:
- Proven expertise in:
- Mental health assessment (functional and organic disorders)
- Treatment of adult and older adult patients via:
- Psychological methods
- Pharmacological interventions
Desirable:
- Additional experience in:
- Substance misuse
- Psychological therapies
- General medicine
- General practice settings
