Specialty Registrar in Paediatrics.

Job Overview

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow (Tier 1) in Acute Paediatrics and Neonatology based at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The appointee will be part of a busy and cheerful department, with a clear emphasis on delivering top quality care to our local children and young people. There is close joint working between consultants and the specialist paediatric nursing team, and good support for junior medical staff. We have excellent working relationships with our community colleagues, and with tertiary centre specialist services in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool.

The post is available immediately.

Main duties of the job

There are just over 5000 admissions each year to the paediatric ward with around 2600 being emergency admissions. The paediatric ward provides 22 beds including 1 high dependency bed and 2 en-suite oncology cubicles. Assessment Unit is open between 0700-2100 during the week and 0900-1800 during the weekends.

In addition to general paediatric patients, there is a steady throughput of ENT, trauma and orthopaedics, urology and general surgical cases, both elective and emergency. Care of children and young people admitted with surgical emergencies is shared between the surgical team concerned and the paediatric on call team.

The Neonatal unit is well equipped and is effectively self-sufficient in that it looks after most of its inborn premature babies who are 27 weeks of gestation and beyond. The babies born under 27 weeks are transferred.

There are regular teaching sessions and Joint Radiology meetings.

Prospective cover of annual leave, study leave and statutory days is expected.

The Paediatric medical team at Wrexham comprises:

  • 10 x Consultant posts
  • 11 x Tier 2 posts

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
