Specification Engineer – Critical Fluid-Handling & Processing Solutions (Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire)
About the Role
Our client, a prestigious British engineering firm specialising in automated fluid-handling and hygienic processing solutions, is scaling rapidly. We’re recruiting an experienced Specification Engineer to join their supply chain team, based in Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire.
The role is multi-disciplinary, focusing on mechanical, pneumatic, and instrumentation equipment, while ensuring compliance for biotech, pharmaceutical, and industrial manufacturing applications.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Specification & Design
- Develop detailed technical specifications for mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical instrumentation equipment
- Collaborate with design engineers and project managers to deliver high-quality, project-aligned documentation
- Create and issue drawings, specifications, and procurement documents for suppliers

Procurement & Supply Chain Oversight
- Ensuring all project materials are specified, ordered, and delivered on time
- Conduct material sampling, weld tests, third-party inspections, and QA compliance checks
- Manage supplier performance (On-Time-In-Full delivery, quality, cost, and scalability) with regular reporting to -QA leadership
Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- Operate within the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) alongside industry regulations, laws, and contractual obligations
Communication & Coordination
- Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal teams (engineers, project managers, QA)
Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Engineering degree (preferably in Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, or Process/Chemical Engineering)
- At least 5 years’ experience in engineering, manufacturing, or technical procurement
- Strong knowledge of safety-critical automation in biotech/pharma or food/beverage genres is a plus

Technical & Soft Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite: Teams, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel (intermediate/intermediate-advanced)
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, pressurised environment—autonomously and collaboratively
- Strong attention to detail and meticulous management of quality assurance
