Specification Manager
We are delighted to be supporting our client with their search for an experienced Commercial Specification Manager.
Partnering with the Technical & Systems Director and Managing Director, the Commercial Specification Manager will improve visibility of future opportunities to ensure the business is better positioned commercially.
This is a relationship-led role rather than a traditional high volume sales position. The focus is on influencing specifications, coordinating commercial activity, and developing long-term opportunities within the construction and manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Customer & Relationship Development
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with key customers, contractors, consultants, and industry contacts
- Increase engagement with existing accounts to improve repeat business and long-term customer value
- Develop earlier visibility of projects and customer requirements
- Support regular customer meetings, reviews, and strategic engagement activities
- Act as a professional and commercially credible representative of the business
Specification & Opportunity Development
- Support the development and tracking of project specifications and early-stage opportunities
- Work with technical teams to improve specification quality and customer understanding of company capabilities
- Help position the business earlier within project decision-making processes
- Coordinate with customers and internal departments to improve responsiveness and technical clarity during enquiry stages
- Maintain visibility of project pipelines and opportunity status

Commercial Pipeline & Conversion Support
- Assist in improving conversion of enquiries and quotations into secured orders
- Support structured pipeline management and reporting
- Help identify reasons for lost opportunities and areas for commercial improvement
- Contribute to improving customer response times and overall commercial communication standards
- Ensure CRM and opportunity tracking systems are maintained accurately
Market & Business Development
- Identify opportunities for growth within existing and target customer sectors
- Monitor market activity, project opportunities, and customer trends
- Support development of sales materials, presentations, technical support information, and customer engagement initiatives
- Attend customer meetings, industry events, and networking opportunities where appropriate

About you
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience within construction / manufacturing sectors
- Project / specification sales experience
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- Commercial awareness with an understanding of project-based sales processes
- Ability to coordinate across technical and operational teams
- An organised and proactive approach to opportunity management
- Confidence engaging with customers and stakeholders at multiple levels
- Good understanding of specifications, quotations, and commercial processes
