Medical Laboratory Support Worker (Team Lead) – Full-time, 24/7
Lead and manage the Medical Laboratory Support worker team to deliver reception, scientific support, and administrative functions in liaison with senior scientific staff.
To provide and control an adequate, efficient Specimen Requesting Service, working with Biomedical Scientist staff and the Laboratory Manager to ensure appropriate staffing levels and professional standards are maintained at all times.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Demonstrate competence in handling clinical samples
- Prepare specimens for processing by receiving, labelling, and booking them into the laboratory computer system
- Perform maintenance of analysers as required
- Perform basic laboratory tests as required
- Support the control of blood stocks
- Deal with results and enquiries appropriately
- Participate in training and development of staff
- Support and participate in staff development in alignment with local frameworks and policy

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- GCSE English
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent, plus additional knowledge gained through training/experience to Diploma level or equivalent
Desirable:
- ECDL certification
- Management training
Experience & Knowledge
Essential:
- Experience working as part of a team
- Evidence of team or project leadership
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Specimen Reception and/or laboratory processes
- Understanding of Quality Management
Skills & Attributes
Essential:
- Good communication skills with stakeholders
- Evidence of strong organisational skills
Desirable:
- Ability to communicate with different staff grades and departments
- Welsh language skills
