Job Overview

Lead and manage the Medical Laboratory Support worker team to deliver reception; scientific support and administrative functions 24/7 in liaison with senior scientific staff.

To provide and control an adequate and efficient Specimen requesting service, working with Biomedical Scientist staff and the Laboratory manager to ensure that appropriate staffing levels and professional standards are maintained at all times.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main Duties of the Job

  • To demonstrate competence in handling clinical samples.
  • To prepare specimens for processing by receiving, labelling and booking them into the laboratory computer system.
  • To perform maintenance of analysers as required.
  • To perform basic laboratory tests as required.
  • To support the control of blood stocks.
  • Deal with results and enquiries appropriately.
  • Participate in training and development of staff.
  • To support and participate in the development of all staff in accordance with local frameworks and policy.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • GCSE English
  • NVQ level 3, City and Guilds or equivalent plus additional knowledge gained through training and experience to diploma or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • ECDL
  • Management training

  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Evidence of team or project leadership

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of Specimen Reception and/or laboratory processes
  • Understanding of Quality Management.
