Speech and Language Therapist

Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist (Acquired Neurology) –Fixed Term Contract (12 months)

About the Role & Working Pattern

  • 1 x 37.5 hour week, Fixed Term Contract (12 months)
  • Freedom for working pattern adjustments – where possible, flexible requests for alterations to routine shifts will be seriously considered.

This opportunity involves working with adult clients with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties across settings including:

  • Hospital wards
  • Stroke Unit
  • Outpatient clinics
  • Patients’ homes

Potential inclusion of in-house dysphagia training for specialist development.

Person Specification

Ideal candidates are:

  • Enthusiastic therapists—either newly qualified (NQSLTs) seeking foundational experience or experienced clinicians looking to expand into acquired neurology.
  • Self-motivated professionals keen to develop both depth and breadth of clinical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and treat adult communication and swallowing disorders caused by acquired neurological conditions
  • Lead caseload management, fulfilling individual referrals to deliver a high-quality SLT service
  • Develop professional expertise by refining skills gained during training and early practice
  • Newly qualified therapists must complete RCSLT core competences where applicable
  • Train specialists/non-specialists—impart knowledge in acquired communication disorders or swallowing difficulties to:
    • Allied Health Professionals (AHPs)
    • Caregivers
    • Other interdisciplinary teams
