Speech and Language Therapist (Band 5 equivalent)

Salary: up to £34,991 per year

Hours: 40 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

We are recruiting a speech and language therapist (Band 5 equivalent) to join our multi-disciplinary team at Cygnet Wallace Hospital in Dundee, Scotland. This post is suitable for a newly or recently qualified SLT, or someone with an SLT degree who would like to return to practise.

The multi-disciplinary team at Cygnet Wallace Hospital support up to 20 individuals who have Learning (intellectual) Disabilities, Autism, and complex behaviours. The team can also support those who have additional mental or physical health needs, as well as those who have been detained under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act.

Job Role

As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will deliver an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the client group within a hospital setting. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will develop skills to assess, advise and intervene with the aim of promoting functional communication systems and optimal independence. You will work alongside staff, families, friends and carers to deliver high quality care. You will promote good practice and maintain a successful total communication environment and have a role in developing communication resources and delivering training for staff.

We are looking for someone who can work in a dynamic environment and enjoys modifying traditional SLT approaches to real time client needs.

The post is overseen and supported by a highly specialist and lead SLT for Scotland. We will offer you strong support to get started in your SLT career, including the time you need to develop your confidence, work on your RCSLT NQP Goals and receive regular high quality supervision.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

  • Placement experience OR interest in the field of Learning (Intellectual) Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • An understanding of the importance of person-centred planning
  • Willingness to work in line with key national legislation and guidance for the client group
  • Understand the importance of team working with a genuine desire to help others
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to take direction from other senior colleagues
  • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion

You must be a Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered SLT. If you are in a position where you are interested in the job but do not yet have your HCPC registration, please call to discuss. Please note: successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced PVG check.
