Job Overview

We are excited to advertise for a recently or newly qualified Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly children's community Speech and Language Therapy Service in EPUT here in South East Essex.

This role is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and is based across two bases, the Lighthouse Child Development centre in Southend and Raphael House community clinic in Rochford delivering assessment and intervention for children aged 0 - 18 years of age.

With supportive supervision from senior members of the team, the successful candidate would develop their clinical skills in their first role following graduation from university to enable completion of NQT within their first 18 months in the role.

The role will be split into two days community clinic for speech, language and communication support and 3 days per week developing newly qualified eating, drinking and dysphagia competencies and holding a delegated dysphagia caseload in order to sign off on eating and drinking competencies.

The team consists of a range of highly specialist and specialist SLTs supported by a range of very experienced Speech and Language Therapy Assistants and an admin team to deliver an outstanding service to the population we cover.

The post is community clinic based and the successful candidate would be responsible for the independent management of their own caseload which would include developing close links with local preschool and school settings as a link Speech and Language Therapist.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must have a relevant UK recognised degree and licence to practice as a Speech and Language Therapist - candidates who will be graduating from university in 2026 are welcome to apply in anticipation of completion of their qualification course.

The successful candidate must be registered or awaiting registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) - candidates who apply pre registration will be considered if the registration is pending completion of their degree course.

We are looking for a candidate who has experience of working with children and young people and are keen to start their career in SLT in a paediatric community clinic service. This includes the assessment of speech, language delay/disorder and planning and implementing interventions and reviewing progress towards et outcomes.

Experience and knowledge of both informal and formal assessments relevant to children and young people including CLEAR, CELF (preschool 2/3 and 5), ACE, Renfrew etc would be required for this role.

Experience of working within a SLT team and unqualified staff such as SLT assistants and LSAs in settings would be desirable.

Experience of placements/working within a paediatric dysphagia service would be desirable.
