Salary: £16,000 - £17,500 (£40,000–£43,750 FTE, dependent upon experience) Hours: 24 hours per week (3 days), flexible working arrangements available Location: Shrewsbury, Shropshire
About the Role
New Reflexions is a well-established, specialist, independent provider of high-quality services for young people in therapeutic residential care/education. The Clinical Services Department, located at the heart of the organisation, delivers an integrated model of intervention spanning care, education, psychology, and therapy.
The department is equipped with dedicated therapy rooms, offers supervision, and prioritises professional development. The current team includes:
- Art Psychotherapy
- Counselling Psychology
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Assistant Psychologist
We are seeking a Speech and Language Therapist to join this Clinical Team at our Head Office in Shrewsbury. This role will assess, consult, and oversee communication support across our Learning Disability and Autism services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop communication-friendly environments in education and care settings, using tools like signs, symbols, photos, and technology.
- Conduct staff training and consultation as part of induction and ongoing clinical support and guidance on communication aids.
- Collaborate closely with Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Education, and Care to develop Multi-Disciplinary formulations and care plans, ensuring appropriate communication targets and support for children.
- Review and develop EHCP targets, embedding them within a 24-hour curriculum.
- Provide individualised communication assessments for children, alongside ongoing monitoring and support.
- Ensure adherence to Five Good Communication Standards as defined by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
- Supervise a therapy assistant in conjunction with Occupational Therapy.
- Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to support personal and clinical service needs.

Requirements
Essential
- Experience working with pre-verbal and verbal children with Autism/Severe/Profound Learning Disabilities.
- Experience within the Looked After Child/CAMHS system.
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy, approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Active HCPC registration.
- Completion of the Newly Qualified Practitioner (NQP) competency framework, along with substantial Grade 5/6 experience.
- Post-qualification experience for autonomous supervision of a Therapy Assistant.
- Ability to work in challenging situations, with high organisation, excellent communication, and people skills.
- Strong autonomous working and multi-agency liaison abilities.
- Full UK driving license with access to personal transport.
- Proficiency in IT skills, including Microsoft Office and database case management systems.
