Speech and Language Therapist

Speech and Language Therapist (Band 5) – Paediatric Service

Job Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our well-established, supportive, and experienced Speech & Language Therapy Team in a full-time, permanent role.

This role will involve working alongside other Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) to assess and treat children and young people with speech, language, and communication needs.

About the Role

You will join our paediatric service at BCUHB East Integrated Health Centre (IHC), covering Wrexham and Flintshire. The position involves:

  • Assessing, advising, and providing therapy to children with speech, language, or communication needs across diverse settings.
  • Collaborating within an integrated team of specialist therapists, families, and supporting agencies.
  • Operating within an inclusive “whole service” structure, allowing strong collaboration with other teams for quality patient-led care.
  • Expectations of flexibility, innovation, and a whole-team approach to delivering outstanding service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and diagnose speech, language, and communication needs across a variety of settings.
  • Provide therapeutic support tailored to individual children’s needs.
  • Work collaboratively with families, schools, and healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
  • Participate in team planning, meetings, and reflective practice to continuously improve outcomes.
  • Exhibit flexibility and initiative in adapting to diverse settings.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, though Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential:

  • Recognised degree (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • HCPC registered.
  • RCSLT registered.

Desirable:

  • Membership of an appropriate clinical network group.

Experience

Essential:

  • Clinical experience across paediatric SLT services.

Desirable:

  • Experience in delegating to non-registered staff.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary/multiprofessional teamwork.

Skills

Essential:

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in assessment tools.
  • Effective planning, time management, and organisational skills.

Desirable:

  • The ability to speak Welsh.
