Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (Outpatients and Stroke) - Band 6 - 37.5 hours, permanent

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic Speech & Language Therapy Assistant to join their integrated multi-disciplinary therapy team. This role will include working in a hospital setting with acute and rehabilitation stroke patients as well as in outpatient clinics and community settings, including domiciliary visits. You will be expected to work within a multi-disciplinary team supporting holistic treatments to patients under the guidance of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, carrying out initial communication screens and supporting the Speech and Language Therapy team with running videofluoroscopy and FEES clinics. You will also carry out administrative and clerical tasks, including making therapy resources and stock-checking therapy supplies.

This role will involve working 3 days per week in the outpatient service and 2 days per week in the stroke service.

Full training will be provided and you will have access to regular supervision with a Speech & Language Therapist, monthly team meetings and regular training sessions to ensure you are well supported in this role.

The post holder will be involved in providing high standard care within our outpatient and stroke Speech and Language Therapy services.

  • They will closely work with the Therapists and perform a wide range of tasks to provide care around swallowing and communication for patients within the community and hospital setting.
  • This will include liaising with patients, healthcare professionals and carers to support patient management.
  • They will support the team with administration and housekeeping duties.
  • They will monitor stock levels of swallowing assessment supplies and completing orders.
  • They will support running of instrumental swallowing assessments.
