Job Description: Job Summary Responsible for providing consultation, assessment, evaluation, and treatment to patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing impairments. Delivers excellent customer service to patients, families, providers, and colleagues using professional courtesy. Assists managerial staff in assessing and enhancing resource allocation and process improvement. Completes thorough documentation and billing of all services provided. Specializes in supporting patient communication and swallowing needs within hospital settings. Essential Functions • Conducts comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, cognition, voice, and swallowing disorders using clinical and instrumental assessments. • Develops individualized, evidence-based treatment plans to address communication and swallowing needs based on assessment findings and patient-specific factors. • Implements therapy techniques and interventions to improve speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing abilities. • Assesses patient progress, modifies treatment plans as needed, and collaborates with healthcare team members to ensure optimal outcomes. • Educates and trains patients, families, and caregivers on strategies to support communication and swallowing in daily activities. • Provides consultation and recommendations regarding speaking valves, electrolarynx, trachea-esophageal prosthesis, and other assistive devices as appropriate. • Maintains accurate, timely documentation and billing of all services in compliance with regulatory and departmental standards. • Assists with resource assessment, process improvement, and enhancement of departmental services and utilization. • Provides orientation, training, and education to new employees, staff, and students, and maintains required licensure and competencies. • Performs other duties as assigned. Education Requirement Bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders, speech-language pathology, or a related field Master’s degree in speech-language pathology, communication sciences and disorders, or a related field is preferred Experience Requirement 0-2 years of experience in speech-language pathology, communication disorders, or rehabilitation services, or a relevant area An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted. Certifications & Licensures Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) license Valid Certified or in the process of Certified with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Basic Life Support (BLS) Certified required within 90 days of the hire date Working Conditions A. Also involves occasional exposure to risk of injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; cuts/punctures; bloodborne or airborne pathogens; and working with combative or violent people.
