Senior Speech & Language Therapist
Location: Ty Aberdafen, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire
Salary: £49,387 per annum (pro rata) (equivalent to NHS Band 7)
Hours: 21 hours per week

About Ty Aberdafen
Ty Aberdafen is Brainkind's specialist neurological rehabilitation service in Llanelli, providing expert assessment, rehabilitation and ongoing support for adults living with acquired brain injuries and complex neurological conditions.
Using Brainkind's recognised neurobehavioural rehabilitation model, our multidisciplinary team delivers highly individualised rehabilitation programmes that focus on improving communication, cognition, independence, behaviour and quality of life.
As part of our experienced clinical team, you'll work alongside Neuropsychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nurses, Rehabilitation Support Workers and Medical Professionals to provide truly holistic rehabilitation that enables people to maximise their potential.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Speech & Language Therapist to take a senior clinical role within a highly specialist neurological rehabilitation service.
As the Senior Speech & Language Therapist, you will lead the Speech & Language Therapy provision across the service, providing expert assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for individuals with complex acquired brain injuries.
Working within Brainkind's Neurobehavioural Model, you will play a vital role in supporting people with communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing difficulties, helping them achieve meaningful rehabilitation goals that improve independence and quality of life.
Alongside managing your own specialist caseload, you'll work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team, influence clinical decision-making, provide specialist advice and contribute to the ongoing development of rehabilitation programmes across the service.

Key Responsibilities
Specialist Clinical Practice
- Lead the Speech & Language Therapy service within Ty Aberdafen.
- Deliver specialist assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation for adults with acquired brain injuries and complex neurological conditions.
- Apply Brainkind's neurobehavioural rehabilitation model to maximise communication, cognition and functional independence.
- Manage a complex caseload, prioritising interventions based on clinical need.
- Develop personalised rehabilitation goals and evidence-based therapy programmes.
Communication & Cognitive Rehabilitation
- Assess and treat communication disorders including cognitive-communication, social communication and language impairments.
- Deliver communication partner training to colleagues and families.
- Support individuals to overcome communication barriers and actively participate in rehabilitation planning.
- Work collaboratively to maximise participation, independence and quality of life.
Dysphagia Management
- Complete comprehensive swallowing assessments.
- Develop dysphagia management plans and rehabilitation programmes.
- Deliver training and education to staff on the safe management of dysphagia.
- Monitor swallowing outcomes and adapt interventions accordingly.
Multidisciplinary Working
- Work closely with Neuropsychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nursing teams and Rehabilitation Support Workers to deliver integrated rehabilitation programmes.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and clinical reviews.
- Liaise with external professionals, commissioners, GPs, families and carers to ensure seamless care.
Clinical Leadership
- Lead on Speech & Language Therapy practice across the service.
- Contribute to service development and continuous quality improvement.
- Share specialist knowledge with colleagues through education, supervision and clinical support.
- Promote evidence-based practice and contribute to the development of innovative rehabilitation pathways.
Documentation & Governance
- Produce high-quality assessments, reports, rehabilitation plans and outcome measures.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with HCPC standards and Brainkind policies.
- Contribute to safeguarding, risk management and clinical governance processes.
- Ensure professional practice remains compliant with HCPC standards and current evidence.
About You
We're looking for an experienced, compassionate and highly motivated Speech & Language Therapist who is passionate about neurological rehabilitation and improving outcomes for people living with acquired brain injuries.
You'll be an excellent communicator with strong clinical reasoning skills and enjoy working collaboratively as part of an experienced multidisciplinary team.
You'll also have:
Essential
- Degree in Speech & Language Therapy.
- Current HCPC registration.
- Experience working with adults with acquired brain injury, neurological conditions or complex rehabilitation needs.
- Specialist knowledge of communication and swallowing disorders associated with acquired brain injury.
- Experience delivering evidence-based Speech & Language Therapy interventions.
- Excellent assessment, clinical reasoning and rehabilitation planning skills.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritise a complex clinical caseload.
- Commitment to person-centred care and continuous professional development.

Desirable
- Experience within inpatient neurological rehabilitation or neurobehavioural rehabilitation.
- Experience delivering communication partner training.
- Knowledge of cognitive-communication rehabilitation.
- Experience supporting people with dysphagia and complex swallowing disorders.
