Role: Speech Research Scientist (TTS)
Location: Manchester, UK (Hybrid)

We are a multi-award-winning AI and SaaS provider based in Manchester, dedicated to boosting productivity and efficiency across our global customer base spanning five continents. As a TTS Research Scientist, you will be instrumental in giving our agents a natural, human-like voice.
This role offers a world-class research environment: you will work alongside like-minded research scientists, supported by our specialist in-house Data Annotation team. This enables you to move beyond public datasets and curate bespoke, high-quality data for custom model training. While your primary focus is real-time and multilingual TTS, we foster a cross-functional culture where you can also contribute to Speech Recognition projects, developing a holistic understanding of the full AI Agent lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Research and develop state-of-the-art, high-fidelity, low-latency TTS systems, with a focus on naturalness, prosody, and emotion.
  • Develop voice cloning techniques for personalised agent experiences.
  • Pair with junior team members to drive research goals and foster collaborative learning.
  • Contribute to original research, publish papers, and represent the company at global AI conferences.
  • Maintain steady biweekly progress within our sprint-based research environment.
  • Write clear and concise technical documentation and research papers.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, Speech & Signal Processing, or a related field. Alternatively, an MSc and 2+ years of commercial or academic research experience in Speech or LLMs.
  • Deep understanding of Generative AI, Neural Networks, and modern LLM architectures.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python and PyTorch.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research with minimal supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
