Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

• Be responsible for ensuring the social assessment, admission and discharge planning for all spinal patients.
• To work closely with bed managers and discharge coordinators to ensure effective discharge planning and timely discharge for spinal patients.
• The post holder, along with the spinal specialist nurse will work closely with ward nursing staff. They will work with the medical team to ensure best evidence-based practice is adopted through the development of spinal care pathways for Spinal Patients.
• Work to build a solid knowledge base in the management of elective non elective spinal patients including both trauma and spinal cord injury patients.
• Provide education and support to junior members of the division.
• Act as a mentor where appropriate and be involved in teaching/education.
• Provide telephone access for patients post discharge for help and support, alongside the SNP. This will be within working hours Monday-Friday.
• Participate in daily board rounds and work with other members of the MDT by attending meetings. This will include liaising with Salisbury Spinal Cord Injury Hospital.
• Potential opportunity to participate in further education. This will be discussed with the successful candidate once in post.

• Minimum 2 years experience in T&O or Neurosurgery
• RGN/HCPC
• 2 years post qualification experience in NHS setting
• IT literate
• Independent Caseload management
• Clinical Assessment skills
• Ability to work with MDT
• Motivated
• Good Communication
• Time Management
• Ability to manage stressful situation

Desirable criteria

• Previous experience in spines
• Degree/Masters
