Spiritual and Pastoral Care Volunteer Role

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this Spiritual and Pastoral Care Volunteer role is to enrich the lives of residents by offering meaningful connection and helping them feel spiritually supported, valued and emotionally connected.


Key Responsibilities

  • Offer one-on-one companionship through conversation and presence to help residents feel emotionally connected and less isolated
  • Support residents to explore meaning, purpose, and connection through faith, relationships, nature, creativity, or reflection—enabling residents to feel spiritually supported in ways that honour their personal beliefs
  • Listen respectfully to older people’s stories, beliefs, and life experiences, fostering dignity, respect, and cultural or spiritual affirmation
  • Facilitate or participate in gentle spiritual or reflective activities (approved by staff) to promote well-being
  • Provide companionship without imposing personal beliefs or influencing older people’s decisions
