Splicing Engineer
The Team
Join JSM Group, a leading provider of integrated utility infrastructure solutions delivering complex power and communications projects across the UK and Europe.
You will be part of a specialist technical team responsible for the jointing and splicing of high-voltage and low-voltage power cables, ensuring network integrity and continuity across a variety of large-scale infrastructure programmes.
Scope of Role
As a Splicing Engineer, you will be responsible for the safe and technically proficient jointing, termination, and splicing of power and communications cables. Working across diverse project environments, you will apply your specialist skills to deliver high-quality connections that meet client specifications, industry standards, and programme requirements.
This role will be contractually based out of our office in River Road, Barking.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Performing fibre optic splicing and testing where required, in accordance with project standards
- Interpreting jointing schedules, cable route drawings, and technical specifications accurately
- Preparing cables, joint chambers, and working environments in line with safe working procedures
- Testing and commissioning completed joints and terminations, recording results accurately
- Ensuring all splicing and jointing activities comply with relevant IEC, BS, and client standards
- Completing all technical records, test sheets, and quality documentation to a high standard
- Supporting the Project team with technical input and on-site coordination
- Adhering to NRSWA and company SHEQ requirements at all times
- Reporting all incidents, close calls, and near misses in line with company procedures

What It Takes
Essential Requirements
- Recognised jointing qualifications (e.g. City & Guilds 2391, manufacturer-approved jointing certification)
- Full fibre optic testing experience, including CD/PMD
- Proficient with test result analysis software packages
- A CSCS or EUSR card (appropriate level required)
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Cable construction
- Jointing methods
- Test procedures
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, jointing schedules, and specifications
- Meticulous attention to detail, with a commitment to quality and first-time-right delivery
- Self-motivated, professional, and capable of working independently or as part of a team
Preferable Experience
- Experience in fibre optic splicing and relevant certification
- NRSWA (Streetworks Operative) accreditation (desirable)
