The Opportunity:
An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Sponsorship Sales Executive to join EnergyNet’s sales team working specifically on the in Africa portfolio of events. Reporting to the Group Director – Sales Performance and working alongside the Africa Portfolio Director, the Sales Executive will be responsible for driving revenue into the event and associated products through intelligent and consultative selling. You will be representing our events and brand in the industry and developing new business opportunities as well as existing accounts.
The Sales Executive will primarily be tasked with generating revenues and new business within an extremely exciting and fast-growing division of Clarion Events, dedicated to the power and electricity sectors across Africa.
The ideal candidate will understand customer goals and communicate our ability to support a wide range of companies working in the energy sector globally.
About EnergyNet
EnergyNet is a multiple award-winning producer of investment conferences & digital dialogues for Africa and Latin America’s energy sectors. Best known for the Africa Energy Forum, the longest running Forum for decision makers in Africa’s power sector, EnergyNet also produces region-specific investment meetings focusing on the power generation potential of some of the world’s most exciting emerging markets. Recent event locations include Lisbon, Miami, Cape Town, Cartagena, Nairobi, Brussels, Washington, Lima, and Panama City. The EnergyNet team consists of around 20 people who are all passionate about the work we do in a supportive and collaborative environment.
The Candidate:
- Attitude, attitude, attitude - The ideal candidate will have brilliant attention to detail, be highly creative and an excellent communicator and team player with the ability to manage multiple projects to a high standard. Crucially the successful candidate will be a starter finisher, with a curious mind, highly motivated and willingness to go above and beyond to succeed. Conferences are not easy and this job can be very stressful, so attitude, resilience and the ability to execute sales campaigns are key to success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct telesales calls and meetings with existing and prospective sponsors to achieve and exceed sales revenue targets.
- Strong administrative and account management.
- Personal high sales behaviours demonstrated, with experience desirable in Salesforce or a similar CRM, having built and managed a pipeline.
- Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with exhibitors, sponsors, partners, and the internal sales team.
- Keeping abreast of market developments and identifying and researching new clients.
- Act as a highly driven, ambitious new business hunter, proactively identifying, generating and converting new sales opportunities.
- Ensuring that all sales administration is completed to a high standard in a timely manner.
- Floorplan management with a high level of accuracy required.
- Attend competitor shows to find new exhibitors, as well as maintain existing relationships with accounts.

Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours:
- Experience as a Sales Executive is desirable.
- Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of events and the sales process to contract exhibitors.
- Experience using a CRM system, such as Salesforce, is desirable.
- Ability to work calmly to a consistent high-level of output, when busy and under pressure.
- Demonstrates a hardworking and conscientious approach to sales, with a keen eye for detail.
- Proficient in Word, Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated with a creative approach to problem solving.
- Resilient, motivated and a starter/finisher, with keen eye for detail are essential.
- Highly organised with excellent time management skills.
- Mature and reliable – a team player.
- Easily adaptable to changing markets & situations.
- Enthusiastic & confident with a problem-solving approach to tasks.
- Positive attitude and passion for delivering results-driven campaigns.
- Creative and imaginative.
- Commercially minded and motivated to succeed.
- The ability to articulate and be naturally persuasive.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent communicator – great verbal and written communications skills that can translate complex data/technology in a simple way to a range of stakeholders.
- Must be able to travel when needed.
- An interest in Africa’s energy and infrastructure sector and a strong willingness to learn about the sector.
