About This Role
New Hall School is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Sports Facilities Assistant & Lifeguard to join our team. Reporting to the Sport Facilities Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, cleanliness and smooth day-to-day operation of our swimming pool and wider sports facilities.
This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a busy and supportive sports team in a well-equipped environment.
You will work in line with School policies, Swim England and Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) regulations, following the Pool Safety Operating Procedures (PSOP), Normal Operating Procedures (NOP) and Emergency Action Plan (EAP). Regular monthly training is required to maintain your lifeguard qualification.
Key Responsibilities:
- to carry out lifeguarding duties in accordance with RLSS UK standards
- to provide first aid when required
- to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in pool areas
- to undertake reception duties, including customer service and answering telephone enquiries
- to get involved in setting up and clearing sports equipment across facilities at all New Hall sites
- to maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness across all sports facilities
- to support the operation of sports activities and external facility lettings
- to assist with the Fitness Suite, including inductions (if qualified) and supervision
- to carry out daily health and safety checks, water testing and reporting issues
- to support site security and reporting maintenance or repair needs
- to assist the Sport Facilities Manager and Health & Safety Officer to ensure that all areas of the swimming pool, Fitness Suite and other sports facilities comply with Health & Safety regulations
- to check pool plant operations and report any issues to the Sports Facilities Manager
The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected:
- to be educated to A Level standard (or equivalent)
- to hold a current RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (or equivalent)
- to have experience in a leisure, sports, or school environment
- to have strong awareness of health and safety in a pool environment
- to demonstrate a clear understanding of the importance of promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children
- to have excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills
- to demonstrate the ability to build positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and staff
- to have knowledge of pool plant operations, fitness suite supervision, or a willingness to develop these skills
- to be able to manage a varied workload, prioritise effectively, and work under pressure
- to have a flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends
- to demonstrate a positive, proactive, and approachable attitude when supporting sports and leisure facilities operations

New Hall School offers an exceptional working environment. The main campus occupies the stunning Grade I listed former Tudor palace of Beaulieu. The School’s conference and events venue is at the Grade I listed Boreham House, one mile away. New Hall is a warm, welcoming, and supportive community, with a staff of around 300.
Beaulieu Park railway station is at the entrance to New Hall’s Avenue: 30 minutes to Stratford and 38 minutes to London Liverpool Street. The Elizabeth Line at Shenfield (13 minutes by train) terminates at Heathrow airport. There are nearby airports: London Stansted, London Southend and London City.

Due to the nature of this role, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken.
