If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Squad Lead.

As a Squad Lead, you will play a pivotal role in leading a cross-functional team to deliver meaningful outcomes that support our strategic priorities. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you will foster collaboration, remove barriers to delivery, and create an environment where your team can thrive.

You will provide day-to-day leadership, enabling the squad to deliver high-quality outcomes while balancing business priorities, customer needs and continuous improvement. Acting as a key link between technical and business teams, you will help shape priorities, drive delivery and ensure the squad remains focused on achieving measurable value.

This role is suited to someone who is a collaborative leader with excellent communication skills, a delivery mindset and the ability to navigate ambiguity. You will be comfortable building strong relationships, influencing stakeholders and empowering your team to innovate, solve problems and continuously improve ways of working.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
