Sr. Emergency Response Grant Financial Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Emergency Response Grant Financial Specialist based in United Kingdom.

This role offers the opportunity to lead complex financial management activities for large-scale humanitarian and development grants funded by government agencies and international donors.

You will play a key role in ensuring financial compliance, accountability, and sustainability across the full grant lifecycle, from proposal development to closeout.

The position requires strong expertise in donor regulations, financial reporting, budgeting, and risk management within a global environment.

You will collaborate with international teams, program stakeholders, and finance professionals to strengthen operational effectiveness and resource stewardship.

As a subject matter expert, you will provide guidance, develop financial tools, and support teams in maintaining high standards of grant management.

Accountabilities

The Senior Emergency Response Grant Financial Specialist will oversee the financial operations, compliance requirements, and reporting processes for complex donor-funded projects. The role involves ensuring effective financial planning, strengthening internal controls, and providing strategic financial guidance to support successful grant implementation.

  • Develop and manage budgets, budget narratives, and financial planning packages for government and multilateral donor-funded projects in collaboration with global and regional teams.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting to institutional and international donors through the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Monitor grant expenditures, forecasts, and budget performance to ensure alignment with approved project plans and donor requirements.
  • Oversee financial compliance across the grant lifecycle, including proposal development, implementation, monitoring, audits, and closeout activities.
  • Review financial transactions, procurement activities, and documentation to ensure compliance with donor regulations and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with compliance teams and auditors to support audit preparation, vendor screening processes, and financial reviews.
  • Provide expert guidance on donor regulations, including government funding requirements, financial policies, and reporting standards.
  • Develop financial management tools, resources, and training materials to improve grant management capabilities across teams.
  • Train, coach, and support finance professionals and related staff to enhance knowledge sharing and operational effectiveness.
  • Act as a strategic partner to program teams by providing financial analysis, recommendations, and solutions to improve decision-making.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced grants finance professional with strong knowledge of international donor-funded projects, financial compliance, and reporting processes. You should have the ability to manage complex financial operations independently while collaborating effectively with global stakeholders.

  • Proven experience in grants financial management, preferably supporting government agencies, multilateral donors, or humanitarian/development programs.
  • Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, compliance monitoring, and audit preparation.
  • Experience managing complex grant agreements throughout the full lifecycle, from proposal development through closeout.
  • Knowledge of donor regulations, procurement compliance, and financial frameworks applicable to government-funded programs.
  • Familiarity with U.S. government grant requirements and financial regulations is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify risks, resolve discrepancies, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate across international teams.
  • Experience developing financial tools, processes, and training programs for finance and program teams.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and operate effectively in a global, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities.
