Pay Range: $65,124.80 - $108,555.20
About the Role
The Sr. Grants and Contracts Specialist will be assigned to our post-award team and will be assigned a portfolio of grants and contracts to manage. The Sr. GCS will be the sponsor-facing contractual and administrative point of contract from award receipt to closeout; internally the Sr. GCS will be responsible for ensuring compliance and proper setup in Children's grants management systems.
The Senior Grants and Contracts Specialist will work independently with grants, contracts, and clinical trial agreements from a variety of sponsors and funding agencies that may be federal, non-federal, state and local government, private foundations, and pharmaceutical companies.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Award Functions
- Provide official review, approval, and on-time submission of the proposal.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with program announcement, organizational, and federal regulations.
- Negotiate legal terms and conditions for industry-sponsored clinical trial agreements.
- Forward requests for patient-care budgets to the Clinical Trial Office (CTO) as needed.
Post-Award Functions
- Responsible for award analysis and account set-up.
- Review and submit scientific progress reports, JIT requests, and other similar requests.
- Review and submit administrative requests such as change in scope or key personnel, no-cost extensions, supplemental requests, etc.
- Update department information systems and official records to keep information accurate, complete, and up-to-date at all times.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Health Care, Public Administration, or a related field. (Required)
- Master's Degree in a similar field. (Preferred)
Work Experience
- 3 years of progressive experience in grants or contracts related to biomedical research, and/or healthcare/medical programs and services.
- Preferred office environment is central or department administration, office of sponsored programs, office of research administration, university or medical center setting, or federal grant-making agency. (Required)
Skills/Knowledge
- Working Knowledge: NIH Grants Policy Statement (12/03), FAR and DFAR clauses, OMB Circulars A-110, A-122, and A-133, in addition to 45 CFR Part 74, Appendix E.
- Math Ability Level: Basic Algebra and Statistics.
- Human Relations Skill Level: Critical.
- Computer Skill Requirements: Critical.
- Hardware: PC compatible.
- Software: MS Office (Word and Excel) are critical. MS Access and PowerPoint are a plus. HBOC Trendstar is a plus.
- Ability to use formatting commands and higher-level commands and functions is a plus.

Licenses and Certifications
- Willingness to achieve credentialing as Certified Research Administrator (CRA) within three years of employment. (Required)
Functional Accountabilities
Pre-Award Services
- Serve as expert advisor to faculty and other departments for general inquiries and concerns.
- Provide official proposal review to check for errors, missing, or incomplete information according to sponsor requirements and proposal guidelines.
- Forward appropriate documents to the signature official (SO) as needed.
- Coordinate the timeline for proposal submissions.
- Submit the final approved proposal to the funding agency or sponsor.
Post-Award Services
- Responsible for award analysis and account set-up.
- Responsible for review and submission of the scientific progress report, JIT requests, and other similar requests.
- Responsible for review and submission of administrative requests such as change in scope or key personnel, no-cost extensions, supplemental requests, etc.
- Update department information systems and official records to keep information accurate, complete, and up-to-date at all times.

Salary Information
The disclosed salary range includes the minimum and maximum rates within which Children’s National believes an individual’s base pay rate will fall for this position. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the maximum of the pay range. The exact pay rate for this position will be based on a variety of factors in alignment with the Children’s National compensation philosophy.
