**ClinicBio Analytical Scientist – The Role

As Moderna grows its scientific capabilities in the UK, we’re seeking a highly skilled Bioanalytical Scientist to join our Clinical Bioanalytical Team. This role sits at the crossroads of basic science research, bioanalysis, and clinical development, helping accelerate innovative mRNA programs through phase-appropriate assay development, qualification, and validation.
Operating in a highly collaborative environment, you’ll play a pivotal role in establishing robust bioanalytical methodologies while transferring them into a GCLP-compliant framework—supporting clinical efficacy, pharmacokinetic (PK), and pharmacodynamic (PD) data generation. You’ll leverage cutting-edge molecular biology techniques, emerging digital capabilities, and smarter automation to transform drug development.
Key Responsibilities
Core Technical Tasks
- Design and execute bioanalytical assays using a spectrum of techniques:
- Gel electrophoresis & droplet digital PCR (ddPCR)
- Quantitative PCR (qPCR), Real-time RT-qPCR
- Molecular & cellular biology for RNA quantification in biological samples
- Bridge basic research and clinical execution by aligning assays with GCLP-compliant requirements.
- Develop, qualify, validate, and optimize formulation suitable assays—aligned with PK/PD studies—within program timelines.
- Execute isolation of nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) and apply molecular biology protocols to generate high-fidelity data.
- Oversee pilot-to-clinical method transfer, ensuring compliance with IMCO, regulatory guidance, and internal standards.
- Appraise data quality, validation reports, and study outputs, minimizing deviations and ensuring full integrity.
- Partner with internal/external labs to uphold GCLP, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Contribute to analytical infrastructure—procurement, qualification, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
Operational & Support Tasks
- Establish and maintain SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) & documentation.
- Identify, qualify, and manage critical assay reagents for current and future programs.
- Enhance sample management flows, liaising with Clinical Operations Team and cross-functional units.
- Advocate for streamlined workflows, advocating future AI-integration/Digital Health solutions.
- Champion quality initiatives by refining processes for efficiency, compliance, and consistency.

- Lead internal-external partnerships to align data outputs with ever-evolving pharma and genomic regulatory demands.
- Actively support electronic laboratory notebooks and associated transparency needs.
- Drive continuous improvement—Present ideas to optimize bioanalysis skills and approaches.
- Share knowledge, mentor junior colleagues, and contribute to modernizing laboratory practices.

Who You Are (Essential Qualifications)
We’re looking for a technician specializing in molecular biology, with added clinical domain expertise:
🔹 A mix of two pathways:
- BS + 8+ years experience in applied molecular biology or assay development, with clinical GCLP/GLP readiness
- MS + 5+ years in relevant disciplines (equally weighted)
🔹 Key technology fluencies:
- Hands-on comfort with electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE, capillary), qPCR, ddPCR.
- Bonus points for experience in clinical cytomics, cellular genomics (NGS, seq-basedomics), problem pathways.
🔹 Scientific communication & collaboration:
- Skilled in articulating complex data clearly—to team members, directors, external partners.
- Up-to-speed on industry trends: regulatory acute cyber & critical trial supply (e.g. EMA, FDA).
🔹 Mindset to match:
- Ambitious to grow science agile teams that efficiently unlock the potential of RNAearn.
