Description
Amazon is seeking an experienced technical leader and First Deployment Engineer to own the onsite strategy and execution of complex, first-time automation deployments and build scalable mechanisms that enable global rollouts across our fulfillment network.
Join our Robotics Delivery and Packaging Innovation International team, where we transform complex automation technologies into efficiently deployable solutions on a global scale.
Ideal candidates will have deep experience leading complex automation deployments in undefined environments, combined with multi-domain technical expertise and a track record of force-multiplying team capability. You'll define deployment approaches where none exist, own the full deployment lifecycle from concept through go-live and steady-state handover, and build the frameworks, playbooks, and mechanisms that enable downstream teams to scale with limited direct oversight. You'll influence across multiple teams, advise senior leadership on deployment strategy and trade-offs, and mentor junior engineers. Working across multiple technologies and regions will accelerate your impact through exposure to diverse stakeholders, regulatory environments, and technical challenges.
Amazon's culture encourages an entrepreneurial approach and expects engineers and managers alike to take a high level of ownership in solving complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
The role could be based in Barcelona, London, Düsseldorf, Munich, Berlin or Milan with ~75% travel across Europe during peak deployment season, with occasional international travel.
Key job responsibilities
- Define and own the end-to-end deployment strategy and execution for complex, first-time automation technologies where deployment processes do not yet exist
- Lead cross-functional alignment across multiple teams, vendors, site operations, and regional stakeholders — advising Senior Managers and Directors on technical trade-offs and deployment decisions
- Build scalable deployment mechanisms, frameworks, and tooling that convert first-time deployment complexity into repeatable, organisation-wide standards
- Resolve complex deployment problems across multiple technical domains, identifying when issues stem from technical design and providing actionable feedback to engineering teams
- Mentor and develop junior deployment engineers, perform technical assessments, and drive engineering best practices across the deployment organisation
- Evaluate and deliver large-scale automation technologies including conveyance, sortation, and robotics systems across multiple countries and building types
- Automate and optimise deployment processes — moving beyond SOPs to eliminate waste, decouple dependencies, and create predictable deployment paths

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

A day in the life
You'll define the deployment strategy for new automation technologies, making trade-offs between short-term delivery needs and long-term scalability. During deployment execution, you'll be on-site leading complex first-time implementations through go-live while simultaneously coaching your team and capturing learnings into scalable mechanisms.
You will interact daily with diverse functional teams across multiple time zones, presenting to Directors and VPs, conducting regular meetings with internal teams, stakeholders, and vendors. You'll build relationships with subject matter experts, shape technical strategies, and influence deployment standards across regions. You'll foster constructive dialogue and build consensus on contentious deployment decisions. No two days will be the same in our fast-paced environment, offering opportunities for professional growth as part of a collaborative, focused team.
