Sr. Solutions Engineer Public Sector SLED
Solutions Engineer (SE) – State & Local Government & Education (SLED)

About the Role
As a Solutions Engineer at F5, you’ll bridge technical expertise and customer strategy. This hybrid sales/technical role focuses on State & Local Government & Education (SLED), helping customers solve complex challenges through F5’s market-leading application security and delivery solutions. You’ll collaborate with sales teams to identify customer needs, propose innovative solutions, and drive sales growth.
Your role is more than selling products—it’s about being a trusted advisor who translates technical challenges into business value. We’ll equip you with training and certifications to ensure you stay ahead of evolving industry trends. Together, we’ll secure digital economies and power innovation.
Responsibilities
Your successes are determined by a combination of technical precision, strategic thinking, and excellent communication. As part of the sales team, your core responsibilities include:

Strategic Advocacy & Alignment
- Articulate F5’s product strategy, messaging, and value proposition to align with customer business goals
- Position F5’s solutions as essential for new business requirements (e.g., state & local government modernization, education technology transformation)
- Leverage technical knowledge to refine messaging that demonstrates ROI and mitigates risks

Technical Decision-Making Support
- Provide comprehensive technical expertise during solution design, evaluations, and proposal stages
- Create and deliver technical presentations, demonstrations (PoC), and whiteboard exercises in-person or virtually
- Guide customers through technical feasibility assessments and proof of concept testing
- Mentor internal sales teams on the business drivers behind F5 solutions and move them toward successful close

Sales Process Collaboration
- Work closely with Account Managers to identify technical decision-makers and secure their buy-in
- Drive the sales process by aligning technical validation, securing sponsorship, and navigating complex organizational structures
- Ensure consistent, world-class customer service throughout the customer lifecycle
- Collaborate with internal technical and sales resources to share best practices, refine approaches, and escalate expertise as needed

Required Skills & Background
Your blend of technical expertise, pre-sales experience, and customer-centric leadership will guide F5 to success with government and education clients.
Technical Proficiencies (Minimum)
- Load Balancing & Traffic Management
- Intelligent load balancing, application request routing, application acceleration, and dynamic content caching
- SSL/TLS & Security Protocols
- TLS/SSL generation, web application firewalls, and protecting against fraud/breach mitigation
- Web & Application Infrastructure
- Deep knowledge of HTTP, web servers, and web applications, and key protocols (TCP/IP, WebSocket, SPDY/HTTP2, DNS)
- Operating Systems & Cloud Expertise
- Linux/UNIX-based systems, deep awareness of multi-cloud environments (GCP, AWS, Azure)
- Familiarity with cloud-native architecture and tools (**Kubernetes, Docker)
- DevOps & Modern Development
- Experience in micro services architecture, API development/management, and DevOps environments
- Exposure to automation tools (CI/CD pipelines, orchestration frameworks)
- Competency Benchmarking
- Experience with top-tier vendors (F5, Citrix, Riverbed, Kemp) for benchmarking traction
Career & Education Prerequisites
- 8+ years of relevant industry experience
- 4+ years of pre-sales experience (preferably in cybersecurity, networking, application services)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent hands-on expertise)
- Compliance Confidence: Must pass contract security compliance checks including pre-employment background checks

Remuneration

Base Pay: $144,000.00 – $216,000.00 per year (Range variability accounts for knowledge, experience, location, and market dynamics.)

Additional Compensation:
- Incentive Compensation, Bonuses, Restricted Stock Units

Working at F5
Work Arrangement Flexibility
- Hybrid: Required to work on-site 30+ days per quarter in states within 30 commutable miles of an F5 office.
- Remote Primary: Primarily work from a designated home location with infrequent office visits or travel.
