We are actively seeking a Sr. Support Engineer, SAP UK Payroll. The role will report directly to the Regional Manager, SAP – EMEA. The Sr. Support Engineer, SAP UK Payroll will be based in the UK and may work from a remote office.

Position Summary

The role of the Sr. Support Engineer, SAP UK Payroll is to provide exceptional remote-based support for mission-critical SAP Payroll applications as part of our global customer SAP Delivery team.

The position is responsible for providing subject matter expertise and support to global clients operating SAP Payroll environments in the UK. This includes researching and troubleshooting complex Payroll issues, providing advice and solutions, and helping clients maintain stable and compliant Payroll operations.

The Senior SAP Payroll Engineer requires deep functional SAP Payroll expertise, strong integration knowledge, and the ability to diagnose issues, evaluate configuration, test potential solutions, and deliver or recommend fixes within complex, integrated and highly configured environments.

Strong hands-on experience with UK SAP Payroll, UK statutory and legal reporting requirements, country-specific infotypes, Payroll configuration, PCRs and schemas is essential for this role.

The role may also support Payroll-related issues connected to Time Management, Personnel Administration and Organisation Management. While candidates are not expected to be specialists in every SAP HCM area, they should have sufficient knowledge to investigate related issues and collaborate with other Support Engineers when additional expertise is required.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Solve customer issues using methodical troubleshooting based on expert knowledge of SAP Payroll functionality and technology within complex ERP environments.
  • Work closely with customers as issues arise to understand their needs, support business change and deliver a consistently high-quality customer experience.
  • Provide remote-based support for the functional and technical features of SAP Payroll, including Payroll and Time Management configuration.
  • Support UK Payroll statutory regulations, legal reporting requirements and country-specific infotypes.
  • Investigate and resolve issues involving PCRs and schemas, Payroll and Finance integration, Payroll calculations and Payroll processing.
  • Support absence processing, including sickness, maternity, paternity and shared parental leave.
  • Support UK Local Government Payroll issues where applicable, including Multiple Employment, LGPS and Teachers’ Pension requirements.
  • Support RTI submissions, year-end activities and other UK Payroll compliance processes.
  • Provide support for Ireland Payroll and other country-specific Payroll configurations where knowledge and experience are available.
  • Support client enhancements and configuration changes by providing technical and functional advice, recommendations, planning support and best-practice guidance.
  • Propose application break fixes for critical product defects.
  • Help clients analyse, identify and correct Payroll-related data issues.
  • Manage one or more assigned customer accounts as the primary technical and functional Payroll advisor.
  • Act as the main point of contact for assigned accounts, coordinating with other Support Engineers and specialists when additional expertise is required.
  • Be a proactive contributor to the support organisation.
  • Collaborate with team members in a virtual team environment, sharing experience and supporting colleagues across different customer situations.
  • Contribute to team knowledge sharing by documenting relevant solutions, sharing practical experience and helping colleagues resolve complex customer issues.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Membership of CIPP or an equivalent professional Payroll organisation is desirable.

Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant hands-on SAP Payroll experience is essential.
  • Extensive experience supporting SAP Payroll for organisations operating in the UK.
  • Deep knowledge of UK Payroll configuration, statutory regulations, legal reporting and country-specific infotypes.
  • Extensive knowledge of PCRs and schemas, Payroll and Finance integration, Payroll processing and Payroll calculations.
  • Strong experience with Time Management and Payroll-related absence processing, including sickness, maternity, paternity and shared parental leave.
  • Experience investigating and resolving complex SAP Payroll issues in highly configured and integrated environments.
  • Experience supporting RTI submissions, year-end processing and other UK Payroll compliance activities.
  • Experience with UK Local Government Payroll, including Multiple Employment, LGPS or Teachers’ Pension requirements, is highly desirable.
  • Experience supporting Ireland Payroll is beneficial but not required.
  • Country-specific Payroll knowledge for other European or Middle Eastern countries is a nice to have.
  • Experience supporting SAP Payroll application end users within a corporate, consulting or managed-support environment.
  • Experience contributing to a full lifecycle SAP Payroll implementation, major upgrade or significant Payroll enhancement is beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience providing ongoing application support following an implementation or upgrade.
  • Deep working knowledge and understanding of Payroll business processes.
  • Strong analytical and logical problem-resolution skills.
  • SAP certification is considered a plus; however, relevant hands-on SAP Payroll experience is more important.
  • Demonstrated experience resolving complex Payroll problems and issues that may involve related SAP HCM areas.
  • The ideal candidate will be fluent in English, including speaking, reading and writing. Proficiency in another European language is preferred but not required.

  • Superb troubleshooting skills and tenacity in problem solving.
  • Ability to investigate, debug and triage support-case issues involving SAP Payroll ABAP code.
  • Strong functional knowledge of SAP Payroll configuration, processes, tables and relationships.
  • Ability to analyse complex Payroll issues and identify the underlying functional, configuration, integration or data-related cause.
  • Ability to understand issues connected to Time Management, Personnel Administration and Organisation Management and collaborate with other specialists when required.
  • Strong understanding of UK Payroll statutory, legal reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Passionate focus on customer support and the ability to build long-term, successful working relationships with clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly.
