Sr. VMware Engineer
Senior VMware Engineer
The Senior VMware Engineer is a technical specialist responsible for leading the design, build, and migration of on-premises VMware environments to Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE). This role sits at the centre of the migration programme, providing authoritative technical guidance across cluster architecture, HCX deployment, and live cutover operations. The engineer will work closely with platform teams, GCP architects, and programme management to ensure migrations are executed reliably, on schedule, and with clearly defined rollback procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end VMware platform build including cluster design and vSAN configuration
- Assist with GCVE environment setup and validate cloud-side readiness
- Drive HCX configuration — service mesh, network extension, and replication profiles
- Own migration execution including wave planning, cutover windows, and rollback procedures
- Author and maintain migration runbooks and technical documentation
- Provide real-time troubleshooting and technical decision authority during cutovers

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
