SSCA Cancer Improvement Manager - Band 8a

Cancer Improvement Manager – Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance (SSCA)

An exciting Cancer Improvement Manager position is available within the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance (SSCA). This role has been created to make a direct, measurable difference to cancer outcomes for patients across both counties.

We are seeking an experienced and driven candidate to lead local, targeted improvement work at NHS Trust sites across Surrey and Sussex, focusing on cancer performance and outcomes.

About the Role

The Cancer Improvement Manager will:

  • Lead, design, and manage change across NHS Trusts
  • Work closely with colleagues, local partners, and cancer service users to improve Surrey & Sussex cancer care
  • Be operational and clinical liaison, ensuring smooth integration of improvement initiatives
  • Diagnose root causes of underperformance in cancer services

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive improvements in cancer performance and waiting times
    • Work on-site at SSCA secondary care trusts
    • Lead targeted projects to address unwarranted variation and reduce delays
  • Develop evidence-based improvement plans
    • Utilise recognised project management and improvement methodologies
  • Bridge gaps between SSCA and NHS providers
    • Build strong relationships with clinical leads, service managers, and operational teams
    • Translate complex clinical/performance data into clear actionable strategies
  • Bidirectional reporting
    • Provide regular progress updates to both host trust leadership and Cancer Alliance stakeholders

Requirements

We are looking for candidates with experience in:

  • Managing large and complex healthcare projects with demonstrable impact
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to influence, motivate, and drive change
  • Proven organisation, self-motivation, and multi-tasking abilities
  • Analytical and problem-solving expertise
  • A collaborative, open-minded, and flexible approach
  • Experience working before, building partnerships across NHS/multidisciplinary teams
