SSD Assistant
SSD Assistant | Theatre | Part Time – 20hrs per week | Permanent | Leeds – LS8
Spire Leeds is looking for a new member of staff to assist the multi-disciplinary theatre team to provide exemplary care in the Sterile Services department by cleaning, sterilising, and packing theatre instruments. Ensuring theatre instruments are correct and ready for use, this role is physically demanding, involving heavy lifting.

About Spire Leeds Hospital
Spire Leeds Hospital, located in Roundhay, Leeds, has been providing patient care for almost 30 years. It is the region’s largest private hospital, offering:
- Four operating theatres
- A sterile services department
- A dedicated endoscopy suite
- A diagnostic and imaging department (MRI and CT scanning)
- Outpatient and physiotherapy services (open six days per week)
Duties and Responsibilities
The Sterile Services Department plays a critical role in decontaminating and reprocessing surgical instruments for the entire hospital. Key tasks include:
- Cleaning, inspecting, assembling, and packing surgical equipment
- Decontaminating endoscopes for the endoscopy department
- Ensuring attention to detail with accurate tracking and record-keeping
- Checking instruments pre- and post-decontamination for accuracy
- Monitoring repairs of damaged instruments
- Ensuring sterilising and decontamination equipment functions correctly (as per manufacturer instructions)
- Documenting tracking systems accurately

Note: This role is physically demanding, requiring lifting and handling heavy instrument sets, with extended periods of standing.
Who We’re Looking for
Successful candidates should:
- Have desirable experience working in a sterile services department
- Demonstrate basic awareness of health & safety and hygiene
- Be comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Show flexibility in adhering to the rota schedule, including weekends when needed
- Be willing to learn and adapt to the demands of the role
