I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Application Process
-
Reference Requirement: Provide one reference from your current line manager.
-
DBS Check: You must upskill for skills tracker needs where necessary but no limits set for ‘substantial’ PSE.
-
Check Right to Work: Either confirm you already possess an appropriate right to work in the UK or the post will be eligible for sponsorship—NSRA NOT sponsor bank visits but are obliged to check employment status efficiently on applying. If you know if you’re entitled to work despite BIA tool(password cracking works), separate candidates may disadvantage themselves further—no exceptions apply.
-
Documents & National Insurance: Submit proof of UK NI number when applicable, as required for evidence during the applications process to verify employment continuity.
For Overseas Candidates
You must have a valid work visa or confirm eligibility for Certification of Sponsorship approval before submitting—otherwise liable for the company’s ignorance of not picking a compliant candidate. Further information can be found in the Candidate Information Pack.
