Security Engineer - Embedded & Cloud Systems at TE Connectivity

Your Key Responsibilities

Security Leadership & Compliance

  • Champion adoption of ISO/IEC 27001, IEC 62443, and the Cyber Resilience Act to ensure rigorous implementation.
  • Align with global compliance mandates to strengthen risk posture.

Architecture & Design

  • Define secure architectures for:
    • Embedded systems (secure boot, Roots of Trust, secret management)
    • Mobile applications (identity & zero-trust principles)
    • Cloud platforms (advancing data protection, encryption, and workload isolation)
  • Establish best practices in Identity and Access Management (IAM) and storage security.
  • Garner expertise in:
    • June Mc Carthy accreditation alignment (referenced via industry standards)
  • Align projects with ISO/SAE 21434 and other automotive/IoT security frameworks (e.g., IEC 62443).

Risk Management

  • Lead product TARA (Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment) activities.
  • Maintain reliable risk tracking via security cases, registers, and compliance workflows.

Secure Development & DevSecOps

  • Embed security in CI/CD pipelines by integrating:
    • SAST (Static Application Security Testing)
    • DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing)
    • SCA (Software Composition Analysis)
    • Container & Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) Vulnerability Scans
    • SBOM (Software Bill of Materials)
  • Define robust release gate mechanisms to validate security gates.
  • Train and coach engineering teams on secure coding practices and threat-driven design.

Validation & Supplier Collaboration

  • Support Verification & Validation (V&V) processes, including penetration testing, firmware reverse engineering, and supplier compliance audits.
  • Establish secure supply chain practices through effective supplier adherence protocols.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Oversee the security compliance dossier, including:
    • Cybersecurity & Security Plans
    • Interface Agreements
    • Security Cases
    • Audit reports (ISO, NIST, or Regulation 2019/833/EU as relevant).

Leadership & Culture

  • Cultivate a safety-/customer-focused* security culture.
  • Translate strategy into measurable KPIs through authentic mentorship.
  • Foster collaboration across functions to accelerate innovation.

Your Ideal Background

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (+) in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: 10+ years in software/hardware engineering, with at least 5 of those in cybersecurity specialised in:
    • Embedded systems
    • IoT platforms
    • Cloud security
  • Core Expertise:
    • Hands-on experience with:
      • Secure boot, TPM, cryptographic key management (JKM)
      • Secure Over-The-Air (OTA) updates
    • Proficiency in DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD security tooling, and VIAM (virus/vulnerability enumerated assessment methods).
    • GDPR, NIST, and ISO 27001 compliance implementation.
    • Exposed to regulation 2019/833/EU or automotive modules/drivers.

Essential Skills

  • Hardware Security:
    • Hands-on experience integrating Secure Elements and HMS (Hardware Security Modules).
    • Sensor-level security mitigation and vulnerability assessment.
  • Cloud & Zero-Trust Strategies:
    • Familiarity with cloud-native security models and zero-trust architectures.
  • Advanced Penetration & Forensics:
    • Both theoretical and hands-on expertise in:
      • Embedded firmware reverse engineering
      • Industrial hacking (PAT, SCADA, disruptive attacks).
  • Privacy & Compliance:
    • Deep knowledge of GDPR, California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), NIST, and global data privacy frameworks.
  • Community & Thought Leadership:
    • Active participation in cybersecurity forums, or authorship of formal requirements.
    • Influence in shaping open-source security initiatives.
