Staff Data Engineer
Salary: £85,000 - £95,000
Location: London | Hybrid
Data Idols are working with one of the UK's most recognised retail brands as they continue to invest heavily in their enterprise data platform. They are looking for a Staff Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in building a modern cloud-based data ecosystem while helping shape the future of data engineering across the organisation.
This role sits at the heart of a major data transformation, offering the opportunity to lead the development of scalable, production-grade data platforms that power business-critical decisions across the enterprise.
The Opportunity
As a Staff Data Engineer, you'll combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership, designing and delivering robust, cloud-native data solutions that enable data at scale. Working within a high-performing engineering squad, you'll take ownership of complex technical challenges, influence engineering standards, and help drive best practices across the wider data community.

- Build scalable data pipelines and frameworks using Azure, Databricks, and Pyspark
- Mentor other engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and pair programming
- Work closely with Product and Delivery teams
- Shape the evolution of a modern cloud data platform
- Deliver solutions that create real business value

Skills & Experience
- Strong experience building cloud-native data platforms, ideally on Azure
- Commercial experience with Databricks, Pyspark, and Python
- Advanced SQL and data engineering expertise
- Experience designing and delivering scalable ETL/data pipeline solutions
- Passion for technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering best practice
