## **About the Role**
Ebury is seeking **exceptional and highly motivated Staff Software Engineers** to join their engineering division in London. This opportunity allows you to make a **significant impact** within **one of the leading FinTech firms**, engaging in projects from day one, contributing to mission-critical production systems right from the start.
As a **Staff Engineer**, you will work cross-functionally across one or more **product squads** alongside **Engineers, Product Designers, and Product Managers**. You will tackle challenging problems, guide teams towards impactful trade-offs, and maintain a clear Blickend of the bigger picture. This role is ideal for those who aspire to technical leadership—empowering you to shape long-term technical strategy and nurture future leaders.

## **Key Responsibilities**
- Provide **technical leadership** across critical domains, owning the **design and evolution** of **large-scale, business-critical systems** in Ebury’s global financial platform.
- Shape **system architecture** by making high-impact technical decisions, ensuring alignment on **long-term technology strategy** across multiple teams.
- Collaborate closely with **Product, Design, and Engineering leadership** to align **business outcomes** with **scalable, resilient technical solutions**, influencing roadmaps and trade-offs.
- Operate through the **full system lifecycle**—from early-stage ideation and architecture to production-level operations, ensuring **reliability, performance, and cost optimisation**.
- Elevate **technical standards** organisation-wide by:
- Defining and enforcing engineering best practices,
- Guiding **design reviews**, and
- Mentoring **senior engineers** to boost collective impact.
- Act as a **force multiplier** by proactively addressing **systemic risks, technical debt, and cross-team dependencies**, driving initiatives that improve efficiency and quality at scale.
- Champion **engineering excellence** through:
- Ensuring robust **testing strategies** and **CI/CD pipelines**,
- Advancing **observability and observability** (Note: Clarification needed for the second term—likely meant *security, compliance, and resilience*),
- And promoting **production-grade standards** at all levels.
- Lead by example in **modern engineering practices**, including **AI-assisted development tools**, while preserving technical accountability and in-depth expertise.

Requirements
- A strong, spread knowledge base in computer science or related fields (educational background supplemented by continuous learning and practical experience).
- Proven experience in fintech or financial services, ideally within production-grade environments.
- 10+ years of industry experience (though experience, impact, and judgement are prioritised over tenure).
- Deep expertise in core computer science concepts, including:
- Data structures, algorithms, and system design principles,
- Complexity trade-offs, and their pragmatic application.
- Hands-on experience with building, testing, and evolving production systems using modern programming languages, prioritising maintainability, performance, and operational robustness.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, capable of breaking down complex, multi-dimensional challenges into clearly defined, actionable technical solutions.
- Strong interpersonal communication to:
- Translate technical concepts for non-experts,
- Influence stakeholders across departments, and
- Challenge outdated approaches constructively.
- A collaborative leadership mindset, including a proven track record in mentoring colleagues, enforcing engineering standards, and contributing to a positive engineering culture.
