This role sits at the intersection of engineering excellence, compliance, and large-scale system reliability, focused on making Ubuntu suitable for mission-critical environments such as automotive, aerospace, industrial robotics, and other highly regulated industries. You will lead initiatives that translate complex regulatory and certification requirements into practical engineering processes, tools, and standards adopted across multiple teams. Working closely with engineering leadership, you will help define how high-quality, secure, and certifiable software is built, measured, and continuously improved. This is a highly influential position where your work directly shapes engineering culture, delivery practices, and long-term product trustworthiness in safety-critical domains.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the definition and implementation of engineering processes that enable Ubuntu to meet strict compliance and certification requirements in regulated industries.
- Translate complex standards and regulatory expectations (e.g., safety, quality, certification frameworks) into actionable engineering practices.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to embed quality, reliability, and compliance considerations into the full development lifecycle.
- Define and drive methodologies for measuring software quality, process effectiveness, and engineering performance.
- Establish and continuously improve development lifecycle standards, tools, and workflows across multiple teams.
- Partner with internal engineering leadership to implement continuous improvement initiatives across global projects.
- Build and maintain relationships with external industry working groups, standards bodies, and strategic partners.
- Influence engineering culture by promoting best practices in agile development, compliance readiness, and system reliability.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
