The Role: Forward Deployed Engineer for Strategic Enterprise Accounts
This is not a standard customer success or professional services position. Instead, you’ll act as a bridge between product engineering and customer success, embedded at the intersection of both domains. Your mission:
- Design, build, and productize real-time data solutions for global enterprise customers in e-commerce and retail.
- Define the technical engagement model for our Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) function, setting benchmarks for future teams.
- Tackle hard system-level challenges where business goals are clear, but the technical path is ambiguous—paired with customers and our Real-Time Platform Engineering team.
You won’t wait for problems to be assigned: you’ll identify, frame, and lead them front-and-center. This role reports to the Senior Director of Forward Deployed Engineering and requires collaboration with R&D, Platform Engineering, and the FDE team.
Key Responsibilities
Your work cycles through four continuous, iterative phases:
1. Explore & Discover
- Collaborate with the customer to uncover real pain points, not just stated requirements.
- Conduct deep technical discovery sessions with the customer’s engineering/data teams, mapping:
- Current architecture and system constraints.
- Failure modes and operational bottlenecks.
- Gaps between what the customer thinks they need and what will actually drive business outcomes.
- Enter rooms with a point of view—not just facilitate, but diagnose.
- Proactively identify problems before they’re articulated or acknowledged.
2. Define
- Translate ambiguous business objectives into a clear problem statement for the system.
- Author technical scoping documents that align:
- Customer stakeholders.
- Treasure AI R&D team.
- Platform Engineering for shared comprehension.
- Establish measurable success criteria tied to business outcomes.

3. Build
- Develop scalable, streaming architectures handling complexity:
- Late-arriving events.
- Schema drift.
- Backpressure management.
- Sub-second SLAs and partial failures.
- Own tradeoff decisions, articulating rationale transparently.
4. Productize
- Distill built solutions into reusable frameworks:
- Reference architectures.
- Implementation guides.
- Decision frameworks for the broader FDE team.
- Ensure solutions sustain quality and maintainability after handoffs—not harder as the product evolves.
TL;DR: You’re architecting and creating a playbook for real-time customer data at enterprise scale. Your influence isn’t limited to the build—you shape technical strategies, standards, and best practices for the future.
Job Requirements
Core:
- 8+ years of software or data engineering experience, with at least 2 years in customer-facing, embedded, or solutions engineering.
- Proven expertise with streaming and event-driven architectures, including:
- Kafka, Flink, DynamoDB, MemoryDB/Redis, AWS Kinesis, or equivalent.
- AWS Cloud fluency: Scaling data pipelines with Kafka/Flink + Lambda + Kinesis for high-volume processing.
- Strong data engineering fundamentals:
- Pipeline design.
- SQL and Python proficiency.
- Schema modeling and data quality.
- Experience with Customer Data Platforms (CDPs), marketing automation, or behavioral data-management solutions.
- Ability to bridge the gap from vague business goals to technical implementations—especially in greenfield projects.
- Versatility: Excels equally in whiteboard workshops and deep dives (e.g., leading a meeting on cores systems, then coding in the afternoon).
- Communication prowess: Simplify complex architectures for non-technical stakeholders while earning trust at executive levels.
Highly Valued (Strong Plus):
- Real-time personalization, push notifications, or trigger-based marketing systems.
- Kotlin, Node.js/JavaScript, or Java/Scala experience.
- ML model serving in streaming environments (e.g., feature stores, inference).
- Background at data platforms, CDPs, or martech companies.
How You’ll Work
- 40% engagement / 60% engineering: A hybrid of:
- Axial alignment with the customer (London office).
- Collaborative design with Treasure AI’s platform team.
- Quarterly leadership offsite meetings (continental Europe travel).
- Driven by impact, not assignment lists: You’ll define what gets built.
- Permanent commitment: Not a contract or time-bound gig—this is building long-term, scalable systems.

Physical and Travel Requirements
