Staff Mobile Engineer - Android

Summary

As part of the M&S Software Engineering organisation, you’ll join a well‑loved historic brand that serves millions of customers and thousands of colleagues. With ethical values embedded at our core and technology leaders who truly understand engineering, this is an exciting time as we continue our transformation into a digital‑first, engineering‑led company.

We’re looking for a Staff Android Engineer who brings deep technical expertise, thinks strategically, and elevates engineering quality across teams.

You will drive architectural vision, influence standards and practices beyond your squad, and ensure that our Android experiences are modern, scalable, and delightful. You will operate as a multiplier: coaching engineers, shaping technical direction, and collaborating widely across product groups to deliver outstanding mobile experiences.

What You'll Do

Technical Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and drive the long‑term technical vision for the Android platform across multiple teams.
  • Influence architectural decisions, ensuring adherence to clean architecture and modern Android principles.
  • Partner with engineering leaders to improve engineering velocity, quality, and ways of working.

Android Development

  • Design, build, and maintain high‑quality Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.

  • Develop scalable, maintainable features and guide teams in implementing performance‑minded mobile solutions.

Mentorship & Technical Excellence

  • Mentor and develop Android engineers of all levels, raising the bar for engineering craft.

  • Lead technical reviews, champion TDD, and ensure best‑in‑class testing and quality practices.

Tooling, DevOps & CI/CD

  • Shape CI/CD strategy for mobile engineering and improve build systems such as Gradle.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
