Job Overview
Staff Nurse Cardiology Rotation - Frimley Park Hospital
Our cardiology department consists of three main areas:
- Coronary Care Unit (CCU): A 10-bedded high acuity cardiology unit
- G9 - Acute Cardiology Ward: A 20-bedded cardiac ward
- Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL): The unit where some interventional procedures are performed
We care for patients who have acute coronary syndrome, myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, heart failure, and arrhythmias. We work closely with all three areas to support a 24-hour primary PCI service for STEMI patients.
Rotation Details
This is a 12-month rotation within the cardiology department between CCU, G9 acute cardiology ward, and cardiac catheter lab with a duration of 4 months in each clinical area.
You will gain skills in caring for patients which are pre and post coronary intervention, patients requiring IABP or NIV, and patients requiring inotropic support for cardiogenic shock and temporary pacing wires. You will have the opportunity to participate in the cardiac procedures like angiograms, angioplasties, pacemakers, pericardiocentesis, and DC cardioversions.
Main Duties of the Job
This 12-month rotational program offers four-month placements in each clinical area (CCU, G9, and CCL), allowing you to develop a well-rounded skill set in cardiology.
You will gain experience in caring for patients before and after coronary interventions, managing intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), non-invasive ventilation (NIV), inotropic support for cardiogenic shock, and temporary pacing wires.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to assist in cardiac procedures, including angiograms, angioplasties, pacemaker insertions, pericardiocentesis, and DC cardioversions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
