Staff Nurse

Senior Staff Nurse – Gynaecology Ward (18-Bedded) | BSW Hospitals Group


Job Summary

Important notice: If you are a **student qualifying in Spring 2026, please be aware we have concluded our Newly Qualified (NQ) Nursing campaign and are unable to accept further applications at this time.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a patient-focused, conscientious, and enthusiastic Senior Staff Nurse to join a dynamic gynaecology team providing a high-calibre, collaborative, and compassionate care service.

About Beech Ward: We are an 18-bed gynaecology unit, working closely with Consultants, advanced practitioners, and Service Managers to deliver an innovative and holistic care experience for patients and their carers. Key aspects include:

  • A dedicated Early Pregnancy/Emergency Gynaecology unit offering specialised nursing expertise (optional involvement for those interested).
  • Care for complex gynaecological patients, including those requiring medical, surgical, occasional orthopaedic procedures, and breast surgery.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The registered nurse (RN) in this role will:

  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based, individualised patient care within the defined care boundaries.
  • Assess, diagnose, and implement nursing care plans aligned with best practice.
  • Monitor and coordinate patient outcomes, adjusting care as needed while ensuring highest standards of safety are maintained.
  • Contribute to continuing professional development and service improvement initiatives, including:
    • Updating and evaluating nursing standards.
    • Casting oversight on discharge assessments and multidisciplinary referrals when required.
  • Administer medicines safely (post-competency), following NMC Standards and local policy.
  • Develop professionally, maintaining up-to-date clinical practice through CPD.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centred care, adhering to individualised needs.
  • Maintain maximum nursing care and safety standards.
  • Conduct patient assessments using effective models of care, driving discharge planning efficiency.
  • Facilitate appropriate multidisciplinary referrals to optimise patient transitions.
  • Promptly and accurately administer medicines (once competent), following legal safeguards.

Person Specification

Qualifications (Essential)

  • First Level Registered Nurse qualification.
  • Current/live NMC registration.
  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience

  • Teaching/Assessment Qualification (e.g., ENB 998 scheme or equivalent).
  • Additional certificate/s in clinical mentoring or education.

Experience & Skills (Essential)

  • Clear, accurate clinical documentation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle difficult/sensitive situations professionally.
  • Strong prioritisation and workload management.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • IT proficiency (e.g., electronic health records, scheduling systems).
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake further training/assessment for extended clinical skills.

  • DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service Check) required. This role requires applicants to be available for a Disclosure check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975 (Exceptions Order); any previous convictions may prompt further evaluation.
