Staff Nurse
Nurse – Sub-Acute Elderly Medicine & Rehabilitation (21-Bed Ward)
Job Overview
Avocet is a 21-bedded sub-acute elderly medicine and rehabilitation ward, specialising in the care of patients with long-term medical conditions such as:
- Respiratory diseases
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Orthopaedic conditions
The successful candidate will contribute to the continuous development of the ward, with a focus on patient-centred care, while fostering their own professional growth through:
- Specialised training and career progression
- Continuing professional development (CPD)
- Support for newly qualified nurses via a dedicated preceptorship program
- Opportunities to advance in a nurse-led healthcare environment

Main Duties & Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Provide comprehensive patient care, including:
- Assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care programs
- Ensuring personalised, holistic care aligned with patient needs
Staff Supervision & Development
- Supervise junior staff, including qualified and unqualified nurses
- Act as a mentor and educator for continuous learning
Multi-Disciplinary Team Collaboration
- Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team to:
- Support service objectives
- Enhance patient outcomes
Ward Management
- Assist the Matron/Sister in maintaining:
- Daily ward operations
- Walksafely and compliance with clinical governance standards
- Patient safety protocols

Vaccination Requirement
Due to The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) (Amendment) (Coronavirus) Regulations 2021, all staff directly employed in this role or required to be deployed to a CQC-registered care home must have completed both COVID vaccinations, unless medically exempt.
