The Staff Nurse is a registered nurse working as part of the Health Visiting Team, providing preventative and supportive health care to children and families in Surrey.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identification, monitoring, and provision of targeted support to vulnerable children and those whose welfare and safety may be at risk.
  • Working as a member of the Health Visiting Team, maintaining a public health focus under the supervision of a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) to deliver the Healthy Family Programme in various settings like the home and community venues, delegated by the Health Visitor.
  • Completing all allocated work within the designated competency framework.

Base Location Our Healthy Family Teams support our Surrey-wide service, and you will be based at one of our Office Hubs across Surrey, with the opportunity for hybrid working.

HCRG Care Group is a flexible-first employer, and whilst you will have an office base, teams are agile and work in flexible/hybrid arrangements.


Main Responsibilities

As a Staff Nurse, you will play a vital role in improving health and wellbeing outcomes for children, young people, and their families, working within a Healthy Family Team. Your responsibilities include:

  • Working within the boundaries of the Staff Nurse Competency Framework
  • Working with the Health Visiting Team to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Working in partnership with children and families to identify health needs at the earliest opportunity and provide appropriate support to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Collaborating with Early Years Services in the community, such as Children’s Centres and Early Years settings.
  • Supporting infant feeding and parent-infant relationships while adhering to the Baby-Friendly Initiative Standards.
  • Completing Family Health Needs Assessments for allocated mandated reviews and updating the SCPHN (Health Visitor) with any areas of concern.
  • Providing support to families using the Solihull Foundation Approach model and Five to Thrive trauma-informed practice for behavioural management, parenting skills, and delivery of programs of care to vulnerable families as identified by the SCPHN Health Visitor.
  • Offering ongoing support and intervention to allocated families and updating the SCPHN/Health Visitor of significant changes.

Ideal Candidate

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • NMC registration in a field of nursing
  • Experience in working with children and families
  • Holds a full driving license and is a car owner
  • Knowledge of national and local policy in Children's Services and Public Health
  • Understanding of child development
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment and ability to promote and safeguard the welfare of children and families, including the skills to build sustainable professional boundaries

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

  • Registered Children’s Nurse
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Knowledge of behaviour change theory
  • Practice supervisor/practice assessor qualification
  • Interest in undertaking the SCPHN qualification

Other Requirements:

  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Access to a car insured for business use
