Band 5 Registered Nurse – Ophthalmology Outpatient (Rolling Restart Notice)

The Role
Essential Requirement: Pull a live NMC UK PIN in order to apply.
Opportunity: A Band 5 NMC Registered Nurse (RN) position has arisen in the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department at Gartnavel General Hospital. The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced team of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs).
- Provide assessment, supervision, and delivery of care within an outpatient setting.
- Operate flexibly within a busy clinical environment, collaborating effectively with both nursing and medical teams.
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care utilising your clinical expertise to assess patient needs and evaluate outcomes.
- Building strong teamwork skills, excellent communication, and sound decision-making.
- Sound commitment to ongoing professional development.
Highly Valued: Proven experience or genuine interest in ophthalmology.
Working Arrangements
- Location: Gartnavel General Hospital
- Contract Type: Permanent
- Hours: Full-time (36 hours per week) – dayshift (Monday to Saturday).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide care assessments, implementation, and evaluation, ensuring care is evidence-based, culturally sensitive, and patient-centred.
- Involve patients, families, and carers in decision-making.
- Maintain accurate patient records, adhering to NMC guidelines.
- Practice within the legal, ethical, and statutory frameworks of the NMC and NHS.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to maintain high quality of care.
- Enable patients to take responsibility for their health and well-being through transparent and inclusive communication.
- Conduct clinical appraisal for pre- and post-registration nurses.
- Demonstrate personal professional development through continuous learning.
- Identify research and clinical audit priorities within ophthalmology, aligning with NHS goals.
- Lead wedge/departmental research and audit plan development.

- First-Level Registered Nurse qualified (NMC-scope).
- Evidence of meeting the job description criteria.
