Staff Nurse - Paediatric Emergency Nursing Team
Band 6 (or Developing Towards Band 6) Children’s Nurse – Paediatric Emergency Department
An exciting opportunity for Registered Children’s Nurses to develop their assessment and intervention skills within a busy Emergency Department (ED).
We are looking for enthusiastic, skilled, and committed nurses to join our team as part of the developing 24/7 service model in line with CQC and RCPCH standards.
About the Role
The role involves:
- Providing care to Infants, Children, and Young People (ICYP) at both Scunthorpe and Grimsby Hospitals
- Positioning within the Family Services Division
- Ensuring a high level of paediatric care alignment with guidelines and protocols
Current and Future Working Hours
The current shift patterns are:
- Phase 1: 07:00 – 19:30 (11.5 hours with 1 hour unpaid break)
- Phase 2 (upcoming): 7-day service:
- Two 07:00 – 19:30 shifts (RNC)
- Two 19:00 – 07:30 shifts (RNC)

Key Responsibilities
Optimising patient care, the nurse will competently perform a range of clinical procedures, including:
- Respiratory Support
- Delivering oxygen via nasal cannula, face mask, or non-invasive ventilation
- Vital Signs Monitoring
- Continuous oxygen saturation and heart rate monitoring
- ECG interpretation
- Blood Work
- Blood gases & blood sugar sampling
- Urinalysis and pregnancy testing
- Urine catheterisation
- Intra-Venous Procedures
- Cannulation & phlebotomy sampling
- IV line management
- Minor Surgical Care
- Wound closure (local anaesthetic, sutures, tape, wound glue)
- Application of splints/casts
- Medication Management
- Administering medications per NMC policy and safe administration guidelines
- Ensuring Trust Medicine Management policy compliance
